This is an exciting time for The Guitar Department at BYMT. We have begun the year with a fantastic partnership between ourselves and Felix School Of Rock. FSOR are an established team of experienced professional musicians delivering innovative rock and pop workshops. We plan to house Saturday and Half-Term Rock Schools where young people will be able to join bands and perform. These sessions will be open to all musicians of all ages who have ever wanted to perform in a band. I plan to build on the success of our peripatetic teachers in schools and start community based guitar groups. Some of these will be intergenerational and will certainly be available for adults. I would also like to develop genre specific guitar groups such as Flamenco Guitar. read more ▼

BYMT are rightly proud of their history and I would like to create a Classical Guitar Ensemble of the best players from BYMT to showcase the guitar at our many concerts.

Those of you who already come to the centre on Saturday know how vibrant it is, I would like to see even more activity in the way of guitar classes, recording seminars, master classes etc. I would also like to establish other Saturday and out of term centres across the borough. We need to be reaching every potential musician we can!

The guitar is a flexible instrument and works across many musical genres. With this in mind I’d like to see working partnerships with local music based organisations that benefit all. In BYMT we have the opportunity to create a vibrant musical hub where all musical strands come together.

We are in challenging times but I feel assured that users of BYMT will in the future have an exciting menu of choices to explore music whatever the genre.
