The Saxophone

Written by Mrs Buxton

The Saxophone, like the clarinet is a single reed instrument in the woodwind family. The saxophone is most at home playing popular music, big band music and jazz. It is a very popular instrument in schools and at BYMT. If you take up the saxophone you would have the opportunity to play in a number of ensembles in school and at BYMT.

When looking at the saxophone you need to consider the following points:

Do you have your second set of front teeth?

Are your hands big enough to span the keys of a saxophone?

Can you support the weight of the saxophone yourself?

All of these questions can be answered by organising a tryout with the specialist Saxophone teacher at your school
