The guitar department is run by Stephen Dowdell with the help of 20 licensed Guitar teachers who teach in the Primary and Secondary Schools of Bromley. Guitar students can be taught a range of styles including Classical, Jazz, Blues and Rock & Pop. We strive to create plenty of opportunities for students to be involved in school concerts and other performances at BYMT throughout the year.

Here is where you can find all the information you need on exams, festivals, events, competitions and news about what is going on at BYMT for guitar.

The Guitar Department has built a fantastic partnership with the Ravensbourne School where we run a hugely successful Rock School on Saturday mornings from 10 am - 12 noon. The sessions are open to musicians aged 9 - 18 who want to perform in a band. If you would like to register your interest in joining BYMT Rock School please email me for more information. We are planning to relaunch regular Guitar Ensembles at the BYMT centre encompassing Classical Guitar to Rock & Pop "jamming" sessions led by our highly acclaimed tutors.

BYMT are rightly proud of their history and those of you who already come to the Centre on Saturday know how vibrant it is. I would like to see even more activity in the way of guitar classes, recording seminars and master classes. I would also like to establish other Saturday and out of term Centres across the borough. We need to be reaching every potential musician we can! The guitar is a flexible instrument and works across many musical genres. With this in mind I’d like to see working partnerships with local music based organisations that benefit all. In BYMT we have the opportunity to create a vibrant musical hub where all musical strands come together.
